Driving to New York from Baton Rouge this Thursday with my cousin and two of our friends. Should be interesting considering it’ll be my first roadtrip. Any suggestions on things to bring or places to go?

Drive the Shenandoah National Park’s Skyline Drive, the Blue Ridge Highway and the Natchez Trace Parkway if you have the time. They all run just about where your route on this map is. Much nicer than driving interstates.

water and snacks. peanut butter, jelly and bread (you could make the sandwiches ahead but they could get soggy). comfy clothes and layers. the more food you bring, the less money you spend.

many ipods to play through your radio, time yr bath/gas/food stops. that’s a long fucking drive, man, be safe. Books on tape/cd are good for long trips like this.

If you have it, satellite radio is a must. I’ve done a few 40+hr road trips and I would be dead without it. Oh and you’re driving through my city.
